Submental fullness, or extra fullness beneath your chin, is sometimes referred to as a “double chin.” While it is sometimes the result of weight gain, you don’t have to be overweight to have this fullness. It may simply be in your genetics. It also can be something that developed over time during the aging process.
Kybella uses synthetic deoxycholic acid to eliminate submental fat. Deoxycholic acid is a naturally occurring molecule in the body. It aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fat beneath the chin, Kybella destroys the fat cells. This causes a noticeable reduction in fullness under the chin. Once these fat cells are destroyed, they are no longer able to store fat, so no further treatment is expected after reaching your desired aesthetic goals.
What’s Involved in a Kybella Treatment?
Our aestheticians will examine the area under and around your chin to see if you are a good candidate for KYBELLA treatment. We will then discuss your aesthetic goals for your chin profile with you and customize your treatment to obtain them.
Each person’s chin profile and goals are unique. Therefore, the number of treatments needed will vary from patient to patient. Our aestheticians will determine how many treatment sessions you will require based on the amount and distribution of your submental fat, as well as your goals. Each treatment session is given at least one month apart. No more than 6 treatments should be received. In clinical studies, 59% of patients received 6 treatments.
Treatment can only be administered by a Kybella-trained specialist. During each session, you will receive multiple small injections under your chin. The exact number of injections will depend on the amount of submental fat you have and your desired profile goals. The treatment generally takes approximately 15 to 20 minutes.
What is the recovery time for a Kybella treatment?
No downtime is required after a Kybella treatment. Following treatment, it’s common to experience swelling, bruising, or numbness under the chin.
What are the possible side effects of Kybella?
The most common side effects of Kybella treatment are swelling, pain, numbness, redness, and areas of hardness in the treatment area.
